bummer. not that i know what that means, but i was actually asking for a friend of mine who uses ssh on his gentoo server. i guess it's bad news.

No it's not.. Unless you are tunnelling or using some other advanced feature, SSH 1 is perfectly safe.
There are theoretical weaknessess on protocol 1.5 but for that work you have to send/recieve gigabytes of data in one session, which you won't do on a cellphone.
