I had the same problem with my K700 on the update service. DSS-25 was installed correctly. Problem was that the type of information javaw.exe sends out and receives can't get through the company firewall. So I got a time out after a few mins.
Weird that you get this error if you don't have a firewall. Make sure that you don't have the Windows XP firewall on (that is if you use XP).

How do you do. I have K700i & DSS-25. I wanted to update my phone with a new firmware (R2AE033). After installing Java 2 Standart Edition Ver. 5.0, SonyEricsson Update Service 1.18 & accepting license, the message "Error in communication with the device" appeared in browser (i tried IE 5.5, Opera 7.54).
In Log File hs_err_pid*.log - The message: "An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0xB811A7E
Function=[Unknown.]
Library=(N/A)
NOTE: We are unable to locate the function name symbol for the error just occurred. Please refer to release documentation for possible reason and solutions.

try uninstalling and reinstalling your your DSS-25 syncstation. I am sure a clean install of windows would do the trick but i doubt you want to do that.........
