> Why doesnt SE release an Ipod style phone?
Bookmark topic
The thing is nokia has had a shot at the mobile phone + music combo, with those awfully designed phones a few years ago (cant remember the model no.). However a candybar, sleek model with big har drive would sell alot imho.
Yes i read about the samsung phone in japan, and surely we will see hard drive phones appearing in europe in 2005 (cebit anone?). I just get the feeling that witha all this "phone-meets camera" campaign that SE has launched for its new models, it may give the music market a shot as well some time.

You're kidding right? The iPod gives you a max of what? 8 hours? People are bitching about the P-series phones only lasting 20-30 hours... and you think a phone that lasts 8 hours will be something people will buy?
Yes, I do agree that a better MULTIMEDIA phone will sell. Higher storage capacities, better A/V capabilities, etc... but until they solve the battery, weight, and size issues that would come with them... I don't think phone manufacturers should even attempt to sell us another clunker.
Oh, and a micro HDD on a mobile phone... hmmm... considering the other thread where people can't seem to stop dropping their mobile phones... I don't think a HDD would be the greatest idea.
Right now, solid state technology is getting cheaper (thank GOD!) and increasing in capacity.
As much as I'd like to have 20GB on my phone... really thinking about it... it's not such a good idea if it will come at a power drain cost. I mean, what good is a phone if it can't do what it was PRIMARILY DESIGNED to do... keep in touch.
Besides, a smartphone & an iPod make a much better solution... for now. There's no way they can make a phone with an interface as sleek as an iPod simply because a phone has much more capabilities... and second, at least if I listen to music the whole day, and my music player's batteries die... I'm not stuck dead in the water without a means of communication... and no, I'm not the type to lug around a wall charger.

why wish for only 20GB? why not 40? or 80GB?
A much larger screen... wifi... better keyboard... full video and mp3 capabilities...
if size and battery life aren't an issue to those who wish for these... I have a solution...
it's called a laptop! hehehehe
plug in a GSM/EDGE card, get a Bluetooth headset... and you're good to go! ... oh, don't forget your wall adapter as well.

I think it's actually supposed to be 12hours. And thats from constant play.
You wouldn't leave your phone playing MP3s for 12 hours and listen to it constantly
It'd be interesting to see how long an ipod battery would power a Px00 for

Volume of mp3 player + volume of phone = one huge device!!
Everyone thinks this sounds like a great idea but if they actually saw the size of the monster they’re talking about they would never buy it! Sure these are great ideas, but you can’t just throw together things like that. I mean yeah, we have the technology for these separate things but we’re nowhere near being able to cram all of that in a mobile phone. They’ve been able to develop phones with the little 1.5GB drives, which is a step forward, but they’re still pretty chubby and I bet the battery life sucks. A few years down the road technology will be better and cheaper and things like this would come naturally, but you can’t say that you’re surprised that nobody’s made a 20GB phone just because there are 20GB mp3 players on the market and also cell phones on the market! I’d like a 3GHz P4 built into my PDA but damn...wishful thinking!

Its called evolution mjdub!
How on earth did they fit a vga cam into a k700? how on earth did they fit a mpix camera into a Samsung D500? How on earth did the fit vga cam, mp3 player, radio, mmc, and a 65tft screen into a 6230?
At the end of the day phone maufacturers are finding ways to implement new technologies into phones one way or another. In my opinion size is not an issue if you take the Ipod mini for example. My only serious issue is battery life and untill they find stronger batteries a hard drive phone may remain a questionmark. But i am sure that with phone manufcturers wanting to create even better multimedia devices they will certinly brings us mp3phones

I think phones with external memory slots are the key.
Pretty soon you should be able to get SD cards etc with more than 1GB on them, maybe even small hard drives with up to 4GB. Once these expand to about 10GB, you could carry your whole music collection on a few of these cards.
The power issue should be taken care of by fuel cells, which seem to be perpetually just around the corner!
Still, I believe that the manufacturers should give it a go right now, with existing technology. The first convergence devices were always bricks (first Nokia Communicator, the chunky add-on cam for the T68i...) yet people still bought them, and from their feedback the manufacturers were able to refine their products.
If I could, I'd sacrifice 30 of the 40GB's on my iPod for the ability to make voice calls and send/recieve SMS's only.
Maybe we should be asking Apple and not SE to release such a product!

Or maybe the key is that they could make that device together, not a merge, just a cooperation between SE & Apple to create a 20, 30 or 40gb Phone, or an Ipod that could make voice calls. I'm sure some day we'll just carry one device: PDA, mp3 player, camera and phone together in one pice inside your pocket, technology is there.

everyone forgetting the most obvious answer to the battery life issue..............
just include 20 batteries with the phone!!!
then get together with burberry or another clothes manufacturer to make a jacket with pockets all over it to hold them all!! (extra profit there!!)
