I don't see what the problem is. I bought a new DUO and popped it into the phone. It created all the folders for me.

If I had a used card, surely you can just delete all the files on a pc then pop it into the phone. Or if you're a real masochist, pop it into the phone then delete all the surplus files and folders using the phone.

If you wanted to format it (why on earth???) then I guess this can be done on any PC that will format FAT (not FAT32, nor NTFS, nor anything else that'll render the card unreadable to the phone).

Yeah! Why on earth P800/P900/P910 do support format? According to you there's no need, right?

Format it using my PC? Errr... Where do I sitck the Stick? In the floppy drive?

In a card reader! Then you can format it, but I've forgotten how to do that exactly, I think you right-click on the memory stick 'drive', and you're given the option to format it.

Like I said i don't remember exactly.

I haven't bought a PC recently, and i don't want to spend any money on a card reader.

This is like having a CD-RW and your drive not being able to erase it.

You really need a card reader with the S700. Card readers are dirt cheap, and you can just pop the DUO straight out of the S700 and into the PC without having to fiddle with covers, batteries or whatever, and transfer hundreds of photos in a few seconds.

I have loads of rubbish on my card, and the phone tells me I have space for 500 photos... BT transfer of just 100 photos would take ages - get a card reader now!!

Why can't you delete stuff using the phone? Takes time, but if you want to save a few euros (and not reap the benefit of having the DUO card slot on the side) then isn't this an option?

People, people, people...
I know i can get a card reader to format it. I could have someone format it for me. I could stick it in my P800 and format it.
But i'm not looking for workarounds. I want to be able to format the card within my S700i.

So i've seen this is not possible.
Let's hope this can be done in a next firmware version.

In the meantime check this:

I erased ALL data on my 128 duo. Got this reply from Joolsg4:
Will the Mac OS X "Disk Utility" in the "Utilities" folder do it? Just remember to format it in PC format not Mac. Screen shot notice volume format

This is from a mac, but maybe this can offer you some clues. If not I will delete post. Let me know
