well they are releasing a cheap SE phone for the launch of Vodafone's 3G service, or at least I think so.
Latest issue of T3 mentioned something about it.
@scot, just didn't want anyone to think wrongly of me
I know I would have asked the same questions!
@dave GET US THAT INFO! (even though just a few minutes have passed)

@amnesia
I was aware that the only SE mobile Vodafone were using for their consumer 3G service was the V800, which doesn't look as if it is aimed at the lower end of the market.

@k700nut
The 4 MP camera phone is apparently still eight months away, I would have thought that the S700 would drop significantly in price by then anyway.

Not doubting you, amnesia, but it's fairly unusual for store reps to go to manufacturer seminars.
Seeing as cellphones are their business.... it would be logical for them to attend seminars.....
@amnesia, the only
3G phone announced by Vodafone for release this year is the V800 and that is hardly a 'cheap model' if I may say so

I cant see that a guy at store level would be told about such a release be
. The only people that would have been told (possibly) would have been the procurement bosses at head office. If all store staff had meetings with
then
wouldnt have any time to design, make and sell it phones. Seems a bit funny to me.

SE are going to release a 4 MP phone and they literally said they are going to focus on REPLACING digital cameras.
I realise you offer this information in good faith however the quality of information staff have in CPW stores is very dubious.
It is unlikely that a cameraphone will ever replace a digital camera, for many people taking 'snaps' this maybe OK, but for taking photos meant for keeping a meory of an event or holiday ... just forget it.
There is a reason why *good* cameras have lenses the size they have, a cameraphone will never include a lense like this!

It was thought that electricity would never catch on, or that radio had no practical military applications; it isn't very prudent forecast technological trends as being absolute. Camera phones may very well replace digital cameras if technology progresses to the point where they are inseperable.

Guys,
I am not speculating that store staff would not be privilege to such information. I work for CPW (formerly in a store and now in HQ) and I can therefore say, with a degree of certainty, that, much as I agree with Vlam that it is not so outrageous to suppose that store staff might attend seminars, they generally do not, and product training is usually given by reps who visit the stores once every month or two.
But hey, who knows? As I said, I do have a meeting with an
rep at 10am on Monday morning, so I will put the points raised to him, and see what comes out and I will, of course, post the info here.
And then we will know for sure! (assuming you believe I haven't made this all up)
P.S. Of course cameras will be replaced - it's all about convergence, people! Like everything else, the top end will probably remain specialised single-function units, but why buy a seperate low-end digicam, when there is one of equivalent spec in-built in your mobile?
