Only thing that makes me think this may not work is that on this page here:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
Virgin mobile doesnt have details for an APN that can access the real internet/e-mail.
I don't know for sure though - worth a try and maybe call them to confirm?

Have you successfully managed to send outgoing email via mail.virgin.net? I always get an error "sending failed".
Reading my ntlworld pop3 mail works fine.
I emailed Virgin customer support, asking for the address of their outgoing smtp server for use with GPRS, and there reply was that this isn't something they support at the moment.
I've even tried smtp.t-email.co.uk (T-Mobiles smtp server), as Virgin appear to use the same network, but that doesn't work either.

Registering an account with virgin is an interesting idea, thanks. Presumablly you're referring to their PAYG account? I've also considered creating a hotpop.com account, as they allow smtp.
Anyway, I've carried on testing, and made some discoveries about my K500i. It seems that the K500i email client supports SMTP authentication, which is good, as some ISP's provide access to their SMTP relays.
However, the settings page for email on the k500i doesn't have separate options for the SMTP username and password, it seems to use the same one as for POP3 collection.
So, I've now got email sending working with my ClaraNet account. ClaraNet support relaying via their smtp server if you've got an account with them.
I don't think ntlworld supports smtp authentication, I need to do some more tests.

Hi All,
Virgin Mobile do have access to T-Mobiles GPRS bearer, but at present they only use the GPRS bearer for WAP access and for sending/receiving MMS content.
Because of this they do not have an SMTP server address to offer?
I still use CSD/GSM (Dial-up) connection to access my Emails from both yahoo.uk and virgin.net with no problems...
I hope that helps
