yeah.. i know what you mean.. I think its a bug too. I saw a message pop up sayin something about holding the back button to make it go into standby, but i didn't really read it. Anyways, trying it didn't work, and I have an unbranded.

I have an O2 branded k700. It goes to the desktop when I hold down the back key from a menu screen or a WAP browsing session (or game, or whatever). Is that what you mean, or do you expect it to go to sleep or something?

Press the back key and turn on keylock to make phone go into standby.

I noticed that (long press on back does not go to standby while it is mentioned in manual) too. I think it is something they wanted to put in but forgot and since nobody in the firmwareupdate-meetings mentioned it it stays that way.
Besides it should work like that in any menu or position in the phone, not only from the desktop.

maybe you misunderstood the manual or have the wrong concept of the word "standby". The "standy" mode referred to by the manual is where there are no menus and all you can see is the desktop, date, time, signal, battery status, and default softkey functions.
When you are in any part of a nested menu and you click once the back button you will be brought one step up of the menu but if you hold the back button you will go right away to the "standby" mode.
What were you expecting anyway?
