Use dbpoweramp software.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com
and download the FAAC codec from the codec central link on that page.
@universal - mp4 isnt a video format (at least i think it isnt) I store songs in mp4 format in my K700i.

Well on my brothers mobile (Nec e616), mp4 is a video format. So... I guess it's a video format

@Arez is right. I'm just not so sure that mp4 actually makes a file smaller if you use the same bitrate. I think mp4 actually has a much better psycho-acoustic model that when you use a lower bitrate like 96 or 80 you can achieve a sound that almost the same quality as a 128 Kbps mp3. In effect, for the same quality, mp4 can use lower bitrates so it uses a smaller filesize compared to mp3s.
You can use iTunes (AAC) or dbpoweramp to convert mp3 to mp4 as many suggested.

Bitrate is strongly linked with the filesize. It's a nonsense to say smaller filesise using the same bitrate. But you can say: same quality - lower bitrate.

blacksopt, in fact you should use the expression aac instead of mp4, because thatīs the name of the music format contained inside a mp4 with only music

But this confuses ppl a lot

Yup, that's why I enclosed (AAC) in iTunes because you won't see MP4 in iTunes (as far as I know) but once you converted your mp3s to AAC you can just change its extension to mp4 so your phone can play it. Some Mac software uses m4a to specifically indicate that it's an mp4 audio only, but they're practically the same.
