Personally if I was going to stick an Orange PAYG Sim in it then I'd save the £60. The Orange customisation really isn't that bad. And anyway you could buy a cable and couple of credits for £23 which will enable you to unlock it, debrand it and upgrade the firmware.
It will be marginally more difficult to firmware upgrade if it's Orange branded as you won't be able to use the online update service - won't work with operator branded phones. But if you don't have a syncstation then you won't be able to upgrade your unbranded model without a visit to a SE service centre anyway.
You could always save yourself another £35 and buy mine

Would Car Phone Warehouse have any trouble flashing it if its Orange to the R2AE033 (think thats the latest one) firmware or would they be fine with it?

always go for sim free. my first se was a t630, the t-mobile limited edition. i hated the way they purged the main screen, shortcuts and bookmarks. it had a measly 2mb but 500kb ws taken up by junk i couldnt delete from t-mobile.
this august i got a sim free k700, its been the best, and i hate myself for having used the t-mobile one, headache for nothing really. sim free k700 is £200 incl del and vat
