the idea of hot water corrupting some files (or sections) in your P900's ROM memory is kind of weird. i mean, if a phone stops working when you drop it into the water, thats because the circuits get full of oxid. I dont think it has anything to do with the memory getting corrupted.
You're lucky that your phone tries to work, but i dont think that the fact that it works weird has something to do with files missing after boiling it
its more likely to be a derivation at some section of the mother board that only happens sometimes (and maybe not with the same resistance).
i dont know, but i felt like telling my oppinion before (maybe) you waste your money to get it reflashed
i hope my post was of some help. really

Hi, thanks for the comments!

I agree with what you're saying, and i understand where you're coming from. The reason i believe this may be solvable is because sometimes this phone does function normally. There are ways around the things that don't work, for example when i try and connect it to my PC after turning it on, it says 'Connecting', but never actually connects. This is fixed by choosing 'Modem' mode, and then reselecting 'PC Connect' mode, as if it's redefining variables/settings loaded in the memory. After this it will successfuly connect and work as normal.

This is why i believe the ROM may be corrupt in this phone, as sometimes it turns on and works correctly, and sometimes i have to use the method above. I believe when the phone was in the boiling water, the ROM may have short circuited (or something similar). I've since cleaned rust from the inside of the phone, and maybe, just maybe i can spend £10 for the chance of making this P900 work again.

Surely it has to be worth the try instead of just giving up? Not only that, but it's out of warranty, and i can't just let it die.

What do you think?

Its got to be worth the £10. If it works then what a bargain, if it doesn't then its only £10.

I'll give you a lift if you want!

I might just have to take you up on that offer. I could spend £10 on attempting to restore functionality to the phone, and even if it didn't work, i wouldn't have lost much, because i can sell the phone as spare parts, plus memory stick, syncstation, charger, etc. I would make more money than i lost.

Would certainly make more money selling it if i can make it work again

Nobody got any suggestions as to the flashing question?

maybe take it into cpw, ask if they can do something.

but after all this trouble, why not buy a new one?

I might do, but my phone is out of warranty, and they might charge a bomb for anything they do to the phone.

I don't want to buy a new phone because they're damn expensive, i was lucky and bought a new P900 from my friend for £100, but i'm trying to get my old one working for another friend of mine, because he wants one. It's worth spending £10 on in my opinion, because it does work, and making it work 100% again would make someone very happy

I would just like to know, if i took it to the CPW and asked them to flash it, would they flash the ROM, or would they just rewrite the C: drive? this is what i don't understand.

If you could clear that up for me i'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks guys.

ROM i believe since we as 'mortals' (the special fone ppl are not mortal) cannot do much with the ROM whereas we can format the C

Thanks for your comments, j_0_e

Please research what you are talking about before you disregard other peoples comments. ROM (Read-only-memory) can be rewritten by mortals.

Here is the definition of ROM for your own education:

"In contrast to RAM, ROM (acronym for read-only memory) is a type of memory on which data has been prerecorded. Generally, once data has been written onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed and can only be read. Unlike main memory (RAM), ROM is non-volatile, meaning it retains its contents even when the computer is turned off. All handheld PCs include a small amount of ROM where critical programs such as the operating system are stored. The amount of ROM on a handheld PC is also measured in megabytes -- typically anywhere from 2- to 16MB depending on the operating system. Some handheld PCs, but not all, have upgradable ROM, which means that you can upgrade to new versions of the operating system as they become available. "

I have placed the important parts of that in bold.

If you need convincing further, please follow the link below, and read the definitions for 'ROM' at the bottom of the page.

http://www.google.co.uk/searc[....]Flash+memory&btnG=Search&meta=

If i'm correct, the ROM inside the P900 can be flashed. I would like to know if this is possible at a SE Service Center/Carphone Warehouse, as i believe mine may have been corrupted.

Thanks for any sensible comments.
