That's because the frequency where AM operates on is much lower (530 - 1600 Khz or something like that) so it has a very large wavelength. Antenna length is dependent on the wavelength in order for it to operate efficiently.
Most AM radios use coils (inductor) or looped antennae to compensate for this length instead of using a very long straight antenna. So it's possible to expose only a short antenna and the use coils (and capacitors) to compensate for the impedance mismatch between the antenna and the transmitter/receiver circuit.

Numerous replies have it - only FM tuner for the
K700 and the rest of the mobiles which has a radio feature on it pal . . . if it's fone with AM tuner you want
