yeah!!.. when i went to hong kong i saw lots of gadgets that had the similar design to the original designs!!!!

i've bought a couple of phones from HK and they all work in calling people and texting people wise that is BUT... because they were phones that where either not out in Britain or a phone that was not heard of in this country.... i couldnt send pictures messages because the networks didnt have the settings for that phone!....

so to put it simply.... it will work... if you are just using the phone for calling people and texting (providing that it is triband i think!)

however, wot really ticks my brain is that what happens if i get a phone that is released in our "home" country but purchased from a different country? will they have the same settings? will i be able to get the GPRS settings as they have the settings for the phone because it is released here!? or will the settings be different so that the British settings will not be compatible???

AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH..... my brain is hurtiing!!

please.. anyone .... please help!!

anyways wish me luck !

by the way!!..... good news!!... my fone can now send pics!!... and its a phone that was from HK so theres your answer to the question!!.. at least i hope this is the same for all other fones etc!!... i got a digital camera last time i went to HK and that is working beautifully!!! so all is good....

if you are looking for cheap things then i guess if you know where to look then you will find it much much cheaper in china / Hong Kong!... if you purchase items from some places it can be much dearer!... whereas if you look hard enough you will find it much cheaper!.... but then the HK dollars or chinese dollar (wotever the currency) is about 1 sterling to 15 HK dollars.... but thats only to the sterling and only compared to HK... you will have to check the currency rate in Norway or wherever!!..

hope i helped, but i think i babbled abit too much! oh well!

U can never buy anything that's cheaper in the world than CHINA. If u can't buy it cheaper in china, your chances are u'll never be able to buy it cheaper in anywhere else. Not even hong kong.

Buy it in china but make sure it is original and not a good looking duplicate piece

Most probably you can manufacture something in mainland China cheaper than everywhere else, but that is not the same as saying you can buy things cheaper in China than the rest of the world. China has many regulations, taxes... which can make products more expensive. This is why people from mainland china comes to Hong Kong to buy electronics/cosmetic, etc....

As for compatability, one good thing about Hong Kong is all phone sold are NOT network locked. The GSM network here uses the 900 and 1800 Mhz frequency. When phone is triband, it will also have the extra 1900Mhz. If you uses your phone in Europe, then you will have no problem. HOWEVER, for bring phone back to the States, then you might find the reception of the phone a bit lacking. This is because in the States/Canada, they uses 850, 1900Mhz. This means the phone you bought over here will only be able to use the 1900Mhz and even when there is full 850MHz signal, you will not be able to connect.

Setting GPRS and others stuff should work too and there are just few parameters to set and should be easily obtainable.

Oh BTW, since we touched on iPod, how much is the Mini iPod selling around the world?

I haved lived in southern China for three years and contrary to the above post by our good friend YEOPK, I have found (to my surprise and dismay) that some things are more expensive IN China. Computer stuff, for example and even cameras and mobile phones. HK would have a good chance of these being cheaper and the Philippines has proven time and again (to me) that mobile phones are cheaper.

Anyhow, for KAMI's interest in an ipod, I havent seen much here. A good bet would still be HK. Plus HK surely would have better after makret service, in case its needed (I think, among others, mainly because they speak english there).

The above is my personal experience and this revelation about China not being cheap may disappoint many, as it does me, up to this moment.
