Sorry bole, you havent met me. You can indeed change the sms tone. The .mid is played is speaker and .amr thru earpiece when in call. You can use the setool to change that. There is this text file you need to make, upload your selected tones in both format and any of the 7 toneS CAN BE ALTERED. This message was posted from a T230

Exactly ..
just like I thought ..
looking at setool.net right now .. but I dont understand how it all works .. too many words and abbreviations I dont know what means.
And I dont understand the credit-system .. but trying to figure out
Would love to change the crappy sms alert sounds in my k500i .. and play around with just about everything else for that matter

Can it be done with dcu-11 or dss-25? Or do I need dsc-11 (t28 service cable)?

@bo1e

I posted a lot of alternative sms sounds at SE Tool. Try them out. I also did some sounds that completely turnes the camera sound off no matter what! They are all in the same thread. Just search for CyberVisitors posts and you'll find them. Some contains scripts too, so you don't have to write your own.

One credit is needed for each script, so make sure you know which sounds you want to replace. That way you only need to pay one credit no matter how many sounds you replace.

You can turn the camera shutter sound totally of by deleting the corresponding midi file, but you need an empty amr file to shut the ear speaker off... otherwise you need to replace both midi and amr files for sms sounds... the tricky part is really to convert a sound to a good sounding amr file (believe me, most sound like crap). I use three different converters before the final amr file is finnished, and the quality is just as good as the original sound quality SE made for the standard sms sounds. Try my different files out at SE Tool and listen, but if you want other sounds... whew! Getting them in the phone is NOTHING compared to producing a good quality amr file!!!

My files for changing sms sounds and replacing the camera sound with an empty amr (well, it's not empty and that's why it was so hard making it a tenth of a second without noice...) and an easy script you can modify is found here: http://www.mobile-files.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4219

Here are some details for writing scripts and writing the sounds to the phones memory: http://www.setool.net/write_files.rar

Remember, you are on your own if you decide to go for it! No warranty, no nothing... I don't even recommend you to do it. When I play around like this with the firmware, then I'm prepared that the phone can be ready for the trash can anytime - are you?
