I have a T230 and I used my flashing software to upgrade it to a T290
Hey presto, I have now have very useful handsfree.
So I can confirm it's 100% software related, not hardware. Find someone in your neck of the woods who can do the ugprade and be happy
Only problem is you lose all your data (pictures/themes/ringtones etc) when you do the upgrade.
So, sorry those people that say it can't be done, you're only guessing. I can even post a movie etc if you need proof.

My friend has a t230 without any update and he can use speakerphone since months ago, he just made a very long silent ringtone and he play it when hes on a call. Very good quality i must say
