One of the lesser known enhancements in Windows Mobile 2003 SE is that it brought support for QVGA (240-by-320-pixel) displays to the smartphone version of this operating system. However, no company has yet released a device that takes advantage of this feature.

That may soon change if a Taiwanese company name NewGen can get the D2000W on the market in the near future.

According to iDNES.cz, this model will use a traditional tablet design, plus it will sport a keypad that is exposed when the display slides up.

Even though this device will have a QVGA screen like many Pocket PCs, this won't be a touchscreen.

In addition to being a tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM/GPRS device, the D2000W will offer Wi-Fi. Curiously, it will not include Bluetooth.

It will use a 400 MHz Intel XScale PXA272 processor. It will have an impressive 128 MB of memory, plus a miniSD slot for extra storage.

One of this model's more unusual features is a built-in FM radio. Like most smartphones, it will have a camera, in this case a 1.3 megapixel one.

When closed the D2000W will be 3.7 inches long, 1.9 inches wide, and 0.94 inches thick (93 mm by 48 mm by 24 mm). It will weigh 3.25 ounces (92 g).

NewGen says it will last for up to 4 hours of talk-time or 100 hours of stand-by time.

It is not known when or where the D2000W will be released, or what it will cost.
