No luck...
Looks like Cingular blocks the gateways too

Tried numerous other WAP Gateways as well. Just sits there loading and eventually gets an communication error

This service must be installed by your provider.
For example my provider use software from
http://www.novosoft-us.com/solutions/mobile_mim.shtml
It working as SMS and I'm always online for my friends - all incoming messages is free, I pay only for messages which send by self.

Well...there is a site there you can logon to your ICQ and send messages to everyone having ICQ. And of course the ppl seeing
you "online" can send you messages as well.
On your phone and web browser:
http://wap88.com
I haven't try myself since I don't have any ICQ account, but I know ppl that have use it.

What about IRC for wap?
I searched around and found a site for an irc wap gateway, but it was a dead link :/. But there is a unix based wap gateway program out there called wapirc that could be run off a web server. But im stuck with WinXP atm, so I was considering writing my own windows IRC gateway for wap.
I'm constantly on irc at home afk when im out, so I toyed around with using sockets in mirc to script a wap based interface to connect to to talk through mirc on my pc, but I have no experience with mirc scripting, it looked easy at first.
So now im considering coding a little windows app to do it that'd run in the background, maybe a telnet gateway. Does anyone know if there exists any public wap based telnet clients? Telnet from your mobile would be very cool.
