The memory of the dictionary is not shared with the rest of the memory, used for images, ring signals etc. Actually, there is no way of telling how much dictionary memory there is left. The only way that you find out that you are out of memory is that the words that you add wont stick.

In my case it was a hardware problem, not a firmware problem. I did some tests on how often I missed a call, and even posted the results to esato. I think it was 30% missed calls or something like that. After the repair it was 0% missed calls. My collegue had the same problem. They refused to fix his phone until he copied the list of problems I had compiled.

@ froddan:
The missed called problem that I experienced with my t68m prior to its repair was much worse than anything I ever experienced with my t28, so I wouldn't say it is an Ericsson problem that you should put up with. A called missed rate of 30% is totally unacceptable for any mobile phone, I think.

Thanks Jas, I'll tell that to my SC. But still, could three different phones
have had the same fault in hardware? If that's the case, I would advice
SE to look over their manufacturing process...

Thanks Jas. That information will help. I can see how a faulty power amplifier or power switching stage could cause this problem but I cannot see how by making a call it forces the amplifier or switching stage back online. But its the closest I have seen to a reasonable explanation. I recently had over 19 days of apparent normal use and then the fault started again. Typically my T68m(i) would develop this fault every couple of days sometimes twice in the same day. So it has to be the intermittent failure of some component rather than a network fault.
I have two T68m(i)'s that have the same problem and an R520m. I know of at least two other R520m and T68m that exhibit this behaviour and there has been reference on this forum to this problem so I am coming to the conclusion that there has to be a faulty batch of come component that is common to both R520m and T68m.
In my case, the fault happens both in an area that has good service levels and poor levels i.e. 5 bars and 1 bar. It seems to be independant of signal strength but the signal strength indicator on the T68's are not very accurate. The fault does not clear when you make a GPRS connection but always clears when you send an SMS or make a call. Without knowing what the inside of the handset looks like its hard to understand what area is failing based on the behavior that is exhibited.
I will discuss this with my service centre and see what they have to say.
Cheers Mike

Mike, froddan: I called the servicepoint today and got the name of the circuit: N400. The tell tale sign of my problems was not so much the 30% missed calls as the problems when trying to make a call. I counted the times I could get through at the first try and I think it was less than 50% of the times. (It is documented somewhere on Esato.) After the repair: 100%. How do yourphones behave in this respect?

Thanks Jas. I'll pay a visit to my SC as soon as I can, and have them
check that.
I have about that rate on my outgoing calls too, 50% not connecting.
But now I can specify the part for them to check

Thanks Jas. N400, I will follow that up. I never had a problem making calls only receiving them. Well come to think of it I do recall the occasional failed outgoing call but they are few and far between. However the incoming call fail rate is very high when GPRS and GSM is selected but the calls always get through when GSM Only is selected as the Preferred Service. One would have thought that the GPRS and GSM transmission paths would have been the same and both would use the N400 component but perhaps not. Its certainly worth following up.
Out of interest, have any of you noticed that the Cell Information no longer displays when using R2E006 in the upgraded T68m. Mine only displays after bootup until a call is made. Then it shuts down. Well that is how it has been for me up until yesterday. Today the Cell Site name has appeared on screen almost all day. Explain that away...
Cheers Mike
