The software that came with the K700 I thought was pretty crappy. When I installed my DSS-25 using just the driver off the SE site and FMA it worked perfectly.
As soon as I had all the SE stuff installed that came with the K700, it turned crappy. It went slow and no longer works with FMA for me. I changed a couple of settings to get the mobile monitor out of the task bar and changed them back when I wanted to use the DSS-25 to connect the phone. After I changed the settings to hide it for the first time and I put the settings back to normal and connected it back up, it never worked with the mobile monitor again so all the SE software provided was useless. I'd uninstall it if I were you.

Agree with @KrisUK. Uninstall the K700i PC Suite from your computer. It takes up a lot of space and is pretty useless. It affects connectivity too.
Aside from the DSS-25, you can also use a Bluetooth dongle (faster than serial cables they say, though I haven't tried it), or an IR cable.

I had problems with the PC suite, however the mobile monitor (needed for fma anyway) and file manager installed only (not the whole suite) does work well, although it crashes Explorer bigtime if you run it when no phone is connected!! You can download filemanager stand alone from SE.
But it's slower so there is no real point in using it, I did because it was all I had at the time and no internet connection on my network.
