In South Africa one of the networks have been testing HSDPA...with the technology being available sometime next year.

They can make hyper/super/mega mobile communication system with superb data transfer speed, but how many people need it? Even in usual 3G network most of clients use it only for calling and sms. Lots of them even don't know that his/her mobile phone works in 3G network.

Maybe in Estonia.
We already developing HSDPA + if you want to call it that.
We getting 3.6MB/s download speeds and 1.8Mb/s upload speeds with HSUPA.
3G is old news here.

People use their mobiles differently.
If everyone thought the same as you then we would all still be watching black & white TVs and travelling using a horse & cart to get to around.
I am always downloading music and video clips onto my mobile plus, don't forget that, lots of people use their mobiles as a modem for their laptops and PC's too.

I just got a new vaio yesterday which came with a hsdpa modem which I can use with my t-mobile web'n'wakl. its brilliant!

Thats exactly what I am trying to set up but the coverage in my apartment is patchy.
I bet its ace - Wireless laptop and super3G speeds - a marriage made in heaven.

Those people just want to talk and send some sms with their phones. Few of them sometimes use GPRS/3G/3,5G for checking emails or to make urgent money transfer in the internet bank or something like that.
Maybe after 100 years people can't live without a superb mobile communication system (3G, 4G, 5G, 50G or 100G)...
But now majority of mobile users are completely satisfied with GSM. Please read different press releases published frequently by from mobile operators and other sources. Then you know that most of mobile users in the world don't need high speed data transfer at all.
