Well, you'll find details on those links we provided, but basically Bluetooth came about because Ericsson wanted a safe and secure way of connectivity so that users could transfer items or whatever to each others phones, computers or notebooks.
Bluetooth was first introduced in about 1997 after being developed since about 1993, but it never made any sort of impact until the last 3 years or so.
Thats basically it, dont quote me though, im not completely sure of the dates etc.

@vx220
You may also be interested to learn that bluejacking was invented by a member here, ajack, who posted the first story about bluejacking in a famous thread here. The thread is called 'I did something naughty today'.

It spawned many bluejacking websites too, such as

Oh i dont know, you could write up on how Bluetooth came about, the state it is in now, and how it is used for other things (bluejacking, "toothing") than what it was originally intended for.
Im sure it would make an interesting project.

Not really. Yes, Bluetooth and wi-fi come from the same notion of wireless connectivity, and use the same 2.4ghz band (or whatever they call it

)
but wi-fi is aimed at providing much higher bandwith.
Bluetooth was only ever conceived to transmit small amounts of data. Only after its introduction did the Bluetooth SIG start to develop it further.
Wi-fi was and always has been aimed at providing high speed high bandwith wireless data transmission. AFAIK there is no link between the two being related as a sort of evolution.
