yes nokia makes network equipment, although i don't know where they rank. but the fact that nokia recently fired the head of its network equipment division can't be a good sign, huh?
in any case, the 2nd largest equipment supplier's market share is nowhere near ericsson anyway.
@JN handsets are only ONE part of the telecom industry. the biggest parts are the ones you don't see, i.e., the networks.
without ericsson, your beloved nokia would have a pretty hard time connecting a call, not to mention that it wouldn't even have bluetooth!

One quite note...Bluetooth is not network related.
On another thing....for CDMA...without Qualcomm, it might not even exist since they invented it!!! However Nokia phone can still function even without Ericsson since Lucent, Nortel, Motorola and even Samsung is building and selling mobile network...of course some of the innovation might not be available...I dont dare to go so deep into mobile network area since I know nothing in detail.

Anyway, they will never go independant, they do a great job with the technology side of Sony Ericsson but those damned adverts are terrible

you're right in that BT isn't network related, but it was an ericsson creation. once BT adoption began to take off, ericsson handed the technology over to the Bluetooth SIG.
CDMA is qualcomm territory as you say. ericsson's focus for mobile is mainly GSM and UMTS. however, it had been building communications equipment for decades before mobile ever came along; the backbones, networks, exchanges, etc. which are used by both landlines, mobiles, etc.
on the network side, i believe the real rivalries were more along the lines of ericsson, AT&T, lucent, occasionally alcatel and probably a few others.
