Have you tried to do a thread here trying to assemble as many posts as possible about the upgrade which is not available?
You could send a copy to SE and one to Orange. But not the secretaries, go for the top.
At least they will know that many people are upset. Orange is acting strange there in the UK, hope it does not the same here in Switzerland.
Why not allow people to get the upgrade? There would be far more MMS capable devices and Orange would make more money. If the want people to buy a new phone with a contract with them, they have to pay a part of the phone...
I don't understand it.
But anyway, I would go for the solution I suggested.

I hear what you say pinolo.
It may be worth a shot. Anybody know anyone at Orange to get in touch with?

Ok people, may have found a way to argue the point with Orange on this. First, note the following two excerpts from the Orange Terms & Conditions (taken from the manual supplied with my T68)
6.4 things that you agree to do
Recognising that good management and security of the Services is important to all Orange customers, you agree that you will:
6.4.6 use only Phones and Accessories approved for use with the Network, and comply with all relevant legislation or regulation relating to their use.
14 phones
your phone is not a part of your contract
14.1 Your Phone and Accessories are acquired by you outside the terms of your Contract
Based on this :
1) Since the T68i is now available on Orange, it must be approved for use, so they can't object as the hardware is identical
2) If the phone is outside the terms of the Contract, then they cannot tell you what you can and cannot do with it.
Anyone got any thoughts?

It looks like you MAY be able to upgrade on Orange (UK) after all. See latest response below and draw your own conclusions. I was sent this after listing the reasons why I thought not being able to upgrade was unacceptable...
===================================
Dear Simon
Thank you for your recent mail.
Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding, we have recently
received several mails regarding the T68 software upgrades, and I would like
to convey the latest information that we have regarding this matter.
Several phone manufacturers and outlets are offering existing T68 owners the
opportunity to upgrade the software on their phones to mirror that of the T68i.
Whilst
Orange do not currently endorse this software upgrade, we will continue to
support
our customers with any queries they may have.
The T68 software upgrade does not affect the Care and Warranty status on the
account, however, any replacement issued by Orange at this time will have
standard
T68 software. This decision has been taken as an act of goodwill to support our
quality customer experience.
Should you wish to escalate your points further, it would be necessary to
contact
our Data support specialists on 156 from your Orange phone, or 07973 100 156
from
any other phone, where trained representative will be happy to assist. If they
are unable
to answer your questions satisfactorily, the call may be escalated.
I hope this information is of assistance.
Kind Regards

One of my fellow workers is on Orange with a t68.. He also got very pi**ed off at the fact that Orange were not performing the upgrades, so he complained and complained to them until they GAVE him a t68i !!! and he still got to keep his t68!

Damn, I wish I'd tried that tactic! They simply ignored my emails. I obviously wasn't trying hard enough. Anyway, I now have mine upgraded.
After it was done, I got a call from Orange detailing the post quoted above and apologising for the confusion.
Still, they've *really* gone down in my estimation for this fiasco.

i never realised so many people were having trouble getting the sw.upgrade on orange! i got my T68 (on orange) upgraded by CPW.
i had no problems at all, the only question they asked me was "did u buy ur T68 from us?" i said "no" and they said "thats ok". i have heard of CPW asking for receipts as well, i never even got asked for that!
they took my fone, sent it away (took 7 days!) and it came back upgraded and still locked to orange! dont quite understand why, but it must vary from branch to branch?

Orange launched MMS today......but u have to pay per message sent (40p) NOT in data.....thats a bit crap, TMobile are better giving 10mb of data for £20....better than paying for each MMS

But importantly, Orange will not enable MMS on your account unless you have an official T68i from them. Even if you have a T68 with T68i software, they will not enable it, no matter how much you make a fuss.
