I would call it materials failure.
The older the phone, the worst.
Plastics don't last forever in the same shape, didn't you know?

Well mine squeeks at 20db!!!....
And can squeek 12 times a second!!!... It can also squeek in dolby digital 5.1 and 6.1

P900 was not squeaky at all, my first p910i was squeaky on both sides- annoyed the tits off me. However i've just got one in the past 5 days and it seems to have been fixed in the newer phone. I think it was the initial batch as I had the phone early.
