'mature' meaning that many or most of the SE products are in the middle or closer to the end of their product life cycles. when the new products hit the market, (Z800, K600, K750, W800, P??? etc.) they would presumably bring another sales surge.

it's just the normal ebb and flow of sales during a product line's life cycle, especially since different companies' new product launches are often not in sync with each other.

these figures don't seem all that promising, but one good thing they do show is that the average price of phones is going down.

I think the average price is going to come down soon what with the K300 low end handsets being launched.

If SE were released new handsets more consistently then there wouldn't be this dip in sales.

I think on average over the next few quarters the sales and market share will be up, especially around Q3/Q4 of this year when this years releases hit the shelves.

I told you all when the S700i was released. It was the wrong phone, too expensive and over-rated.

Hopefully the release of the new phones, which i am hoping will be quick and not too expensive, will see develop a more stable rise in popularity.

This new BBC article discusses the earnings of Sony Ericsson, alongside its rivals etc.

Extract:

"Sony Ericsson has reported a drop in quarterly profits and sales amid subdued demand for the Japanese-Swedish mobile phone company's products.
Pre-tax profit in the three months to 31 March fell 28% to 70m euros (£48m) from 97m euros a year earlier. Sales fell to 1.29bn euros from 1.34bn euros.

These were the latest tech industry figures to disappoint analysts.

Sony Ericsson said it was squeezed by lower prices while demand was hit by a "mature" product range."

I saw this coming a few months back already ! Read some of my posts from that time if you don't believe me.SE financial position is weakening by the month. They urgently need: 1. EDGE line up. 2.S60 support and 3.A upgrade of the Pxx lineup ! Go ahead criticise me again, but look what the numbers say.A few months back SE also sliped backwarts as a cell manufacturing company ! Samsung have also posted lower earnings and the tech market in general has got the jitters.

@Mario I always expect post - christmas sales to take a dip normally, although I agree that desperately needs the new handsets on the shelves quick.

Anyway, I will wait for Nokia's results on Thursday, that will give a better indication of the state of the market in general.

SE has major release gaps, unlike other manufacturers who release products continuously throughout the year, SE only release 4-6 phones a year, and thats not enough, usually theyre released within similar dates, meaning if someone wants the latest phone out there, odds are it wont be SE. Hence SEs products will only be purchased by people who anticipated their release. SE fans.

Look at the gap, the latest MAJOR phone released was the P910, and that was ages ago, here we are still waiting for the K750.

Its true. They need to be more consistent.

There were a lot of rumours late last year that they will be releasing about 8 new phones this year compared to others 20 new phones, which means we can only expect another couple for the rest of the year.

I think they are banking a lot on the Walman phone to make up the sales as that has the strongest branding.

@goldenface Nokia will also post a market drop as will the others. The problem is,while the other companies earnings dropped between 15% and 30%, SE really hit it bad with just over 60% ! ! ! The directors where quick at explaining as why and how (they had to in order to calm down the shares holders) but only a blind man would account all this on market sentiment.
