What I like is bidding early and realistically and watching total amateurs trying to out-bid me in the last minute and failing miserably. Do I chuckle! This message was posted from a T68i

my thoughts about bidding early (and why I don't) is that it tends to get others bidding (due to ego etc) and hence raising the price higher than you might have got the item if you had not shown any interest

there really is a mentality behind ebayers not wanting to lose. I often see many items going for more than you can pay for them with buy-it-now or sometimes in shops.

I wonder if any psychologist has written any papers about ebay buyers?

I agree, mass., but I'm aware of the psychology and I don't fall for it. I put in a fair bid early. If I lose I know an identical article will re-appear soon enough. I once bid on 27 consecutive one day auctions for a camera for my Palm. Got it eventually for the price I would pay. It's a buyer's market! This message was posted from a T68i

thats true too. I'm never unhappy if I lose because someone pays more than I was prepared to pay because there is always another day

I had a great eBay moment last week. I collect Zippos and I saw a model I've been trying to get for months in a German shop. The shipping was as much as the Zippo but the total was still well within my max. price so I BIN'd it smart. The invoice I got from the seller saying shipping was actually 8 and not 28 (as quoted) did nothing to spoil my smugness at what I already considsed a fair deal! ;-) This message was posted from a T68i

masseur nice to see you

i never bid early, you are dead right there it raises the price too much

sometimes i think people are a bit thick bidding on things

the other week i had my eye on a second hand wireless router and adapter and they went for well over £100 and they were used

i bought mine brand new of ebuyer for less than what the auction went for

people obviously dont check their prices beforehand

I'm fortunate that I collect in a specialist market and the people who are going to pay what we do for a lighter know what a reasonable price will be. Sniping is only an issue at the very general end of the market. This message was posted from a T68i

Silly bidders are good for sellers... I sold an old 2mp digital camera on eBay last year - I couldn't believe it when it sold for £5 more (+ postage) than the later, better model could be bought for new from the High Street!!

I've no idea why the guy bought it... I almost felt like telling him that he could've got a better camera, new, for cheaper but kept quiet!! He was happy with it...

Theres mac mentality for yah!:p
I know what you mean tho, i often see an auction for "good a" with 11 hours left going for a higher price than a "good a" with 30 minutes left.
