That's called "marketing"!
Having a 3G phone now os pointless and honestly, stupid. You'll be running off the GSM networks 90% of the time... and the few times that you are within 3G coverage... who will you call? The 3 other people you know who have 3G phones who happen to be within 3G coverage as well?
Fast internet? Big deal... still slower than WiFi... and hi-speed internet on a phone isn't exactly as fun as hi-speed internet on a laptop. And when do you actually need hi-speed internet while on the move? As in, not in a WiFi spot.
3G is dead. By the time people need that speed on a mobile phone, 4G, or whatever they decide to call it, will be out. 3G is dead because its sole purpose of development was to cash-in on the mobile revolution...there was no demand for it. It will suffer the same fate as satellite phone systems like Iridium, GlobalStar and ACeS. Oh sure, they're all still around... but I don't want one. Not at the prices they're charging.
Unless 3G data/video rates will be equal to, or less than, current GSM rates, no one will really make the switch, since there's no real need to do so.

there is a possibility that the service will be implemented by networks here in the philippines if and only if they'd make sure that they will profit.. hindi pa boom ang 3g phones d2 satin and certainly the cost of using that service would be way too high as compared to local calls maybe twice or thrice, we have no idea.. but then who would use the service if it cost much..

I think pag pinasok nila yung tech dito (by 2008 according to an article I read) baba lang rates per minute. Siguro at a low premium lang like 2 to 4 pesos more a minute. Kase walang gagamit at masasayang lang yung investment nila pag nagtaas sila ng rates. Hay, lipat na lang akong Dubai may 3G na don.
