I've heard alot of good excuses in my time but one of the funniest had to be a bloke i used to work with who was always having time off and came in the one day and told us he had not come to work one tuesday because he'd had to go to his mom's funeral only to find out who should phone up asking if she could speak to her son but his mom lol :-D

Not kidding. And this was real too. I used to race 31 foot yaghts (sp?) on the Swan River in WA, but the races were sometimes really long and so I had to bring my h/w along. So, when we're running (downwind) I was doing maths (I had just filled up 4 pages of working on a notepad when the wind changed and we jibed (sailors will know how dangerous that is
) I ducked, but my hand got caught in a rope, and so I obviously let go of the h/w to get out of it
.
I was fine, but my h/w has probably decayed by now
.
