Just one question..... will they mention at this enlightened event the link between cannabis and psychosis?

I work in mental health, and have seen first hand the damage that this 'harmless' drug can do!

Obviously smoking dope won't give everyone schizophrenia, but it has been behind a lot of cases I have seen on acute mental health wards and in the community. It has changed my views on the drug and it's new social acceptance; I no longer think it's cool to smoke it or anything. And yes, before anyones asks, I have tried smoking it when I was younger. It tended to either send me to sleep or make me feel sick!

I hope I don't sound too much like a killjoy or too moralistic there!

Its actually one of the issues they want to address. Thay say that the money wasted on proabition should be spent on education and research about the drug.

I have heard that 15% of people carry a gene that makes people subceptible to mental inlnesses, but this can be triggered by anything like alcholol, stress etc as you well know.

anyway, everything has a good and a bad side. MCRF is a charity that trials the medicinal side of cannabis, that can be used to treat Multiple Sclerosis, severe arthritis and bladder dysfunction.

Political speakers invited include representatives from all the main parties, plus the Legalise Cannabis Alliance which had 18 candidates standing in 21 constituencies in the general election.

Musicians, comedians, poets and artists will all be represented and there will be information areas covering the medical and recreational uses of cannabis, as well as the nutritional and industrial uses of hemp.

The Festival is not fuelling this war and is proud to use vegetable and hemp oil biodiesel in all its generators.

Let's hope they can secure more funding for research into the link between cannabis and mental health. My only caveat would be that totally legalising it in order to spend the money on researching cannabis use and psychosis will lead to many more admissions to mental health wards of dope-induced psychosis until the research is complete. And who knows what that research will say? I hope they do manage to do some more into researching cannabis and MS though, as my girlfriend's mother has MS.

Come to think of it, I think she uses the occasional spliff to help with her symptoms.....

I hope you understand my previous post here, I have seen the bad side to cannabis usage, but it of course it's not all bad. I had actually forgotten about my girlfriend's mum, MS, and cannabis seeming to help her symptoms!

Hmm....very interesting. Sounds like they're taking a fairly responsible approach.

Personally, I believe that whilst it Cannabis may not be totally harmless, it's classification as a gateway drug is what I object to. As if one minute, people are smoking a spliff and the next minute they're shooting up in the ghetto! Everyone has free choice and the only link between Cannabis and Class A's is for those who are led by curiosity, peer pressure, or idiocy, IMHO.

Surely, if you have the sort of personality prone to psychosis or schitzophrenia, can it not, as has been said before, be triggered by a wide variety of things of which Cannabis is simply the illegal (or should I say decriminalised) option?!
