It's been confirmed on the BBC that Apple will be switching from IBM to Intel chips by Steve Jobs.

Wow! I never thought I'd see the day!
Mind you, OS X is already semi-compatible with Intel processors so I suppose we should have seen it coming. Still a surprise though

Apparently Apple have been compiling OS X to run on Intel processors for the past 5 years! So they've obviously been thinking about this switch for a while...
Also sounds like they've really done some good work on making the transition as smooth as possible for developers. Many programs will run as they are, others will just need minor tweaks and re-compiling.
For the end user I don't think it will change too much, apart from we'll have faster Macs with clock speeds the same as PCs.
As long as Intel don't insist that Apple stick their 'Intel Inside' sticker on Apple hardware, I don't mind...
Just makes the decision on when to buy another Mac tricky... should I wait a year to 18 months, or just buy an iBook later this year as I planned...?

i think apple had offered an awesome deal by intel, coz a lot of intels fab's capacity is not utilised,i think its the primary reason if there's a switch, but its not yet clear if intel will make a new chip for apple (unlikely but cant be ignored) , or if apple is going to switch to x86 ,if its the second case i think apple be a loser to much extent.
