@ max99

do the words "vested interest" ring any bells? :¬)

seriously, I have found ebay prices on memory cards to be, shall we say, not quite as good value as the sellers would have you believe. that plus the fact many of them sell from overseas tends to put many people off.

Well I got my Sandisk 1Gb on ebay, shipping from GERMANY to Belgium for 104 EUR (that's about 69 pounds) INCLUDING shipping costs, can you find me a better deal? Me don't think so

@turt

two things you forgot about us poor bleeders in the UK...
1. Import duty
2. VAT

And the sandisk 1Gb you talk about can be bought for around £85 here in the UK if you look around - so I think you'll find it's about the same price you paid but without the associated risks of grey imports - what will you do about the guarantee when the card fails !?

You don't need to pay any import or duty, i'm in the UK and nothing I buy over the £18 customs limit ever gets hits. These sellers do a lot of there business with UK buyers so they put down a low value for the item when sending it. Nor do you pay VAT, nor do you lose your 5 year warranty as any decent seller will replace it in the exteremly unlikely event that it breaks down. 100% risk free if you know who the good sellers are.

Well aren't you the lucky one?
I know loads of people who have been stung for import duty, as well as me who got stung once for something worth 20 fing quid!

All the same, I think you'll find the guarantee not worth the email it was written on when you import goods - you are basically relying on the goodwill of the seller.

Well I don't know what you're talking about! Import duty? Of course there's nothing to pay, because as far as I know (although sometimes it doesn't seem like this), the UK is a member of the European Union, so if you purchase goods in another E.U. country (for instance GERMANY), you don't have to pay anything extra!

For VAT, normally you have to pay your country VAT instead of the country from where the item is shipped, so even with your 21% VAT instead of the 19,6% German VAT there's no significant price difference! As a matter of fact, usually the sellers don't bother with that rule and let their own VAT rate and nobody will ask you to pay something extra.

Okay, now you can buy in the European Union without being afraid of paying additional taxes, and don't worry about warranty, it will be valid!

Of course, it's a whole other story if you purchase anything outside European Union

Yes, goods from EU don't attract duty, but most of the posts on here were talking in dollars...
either way, I'd rather pay a couple of pounds extra in UK and KNOW that the guarantee is actually worth something.

I would also expect, now that the new range of sandisk pro duos have been released here, that the old vanilla ones will be coming down in price very soon.

Okay but you replied to me, and in my post I was clearly stating it was shipped from Germany! 69 pounds including shipping to another European Union country with a 5 year warranty is definitely a good price
