It doesn't use the credit until the finalisation part, that was my worry that they'd all get used up before it finished.
If you ask nicely maybe GsMen will be kind enough to give you one, if not then I guess you'll have to pay like usual.

It first upgrades your firmware, and along with it if you want you can change the customizations. I went from an unbranded EU_3 to EU_2 and now have no camera sound when in silent mode.
