i was told by an o2 csa 2/3 years ago that the text msgin part if the network was very old and due for a major upgrade, afaik this has STILL not happend and with o2 pushing 3g and looking to close down 2g i think its safe to say, no matter how far away the shutdown, a major upgrade of any part of the 2g net wont happen.
