Right, to clarify - both Voda and BT gateways will happily negotiate a limit up to 8 Kb. This I know because I have a phone that can do this. The result is that you can pull through an image up to about 7.6 Kb.
As regards LDT ( large data transfer ) though, neither gateway to the best of my knowledge supports this ( I am happy to be proved wrong ).
The problem with the ip addresses supplied is potentially to do with your method of access - GPRS can have some tight limitations imposed on what you can access - due to the way the routing works up to and through the GGSN ( the node that allows you access to the internet )
Possibly you can have more success with dial-up ( have not bothered with trying this too much since GPRS is that much faster ).
So in summary, in the UK I don't reckon there are any operator gateways that support LDT. You MAY be able to configure your phone to access a public gateway that DOES support, but that depends to a degree on what the operator is doing with the internet access.
As regards where to configure the gateway in the T68, it is as follows. You can create DATA ACCOUNTS first of all. These can be used for WAP, Email, MMS, or when using your phone as a modem. Once you have created your DATA ACCOUNT you can then go to the WAP option, and create a WAP PROFILE. The WAP PROFILE will have a setting where it calls the DATA ACCOUNT of your choosing. Another one of the options in the WAP PROFILE is for the gateway ip address. This is where the ip addresses mentioned would go.

Perhaps someone should do a sticky about this because it seems lots of people want to set up, but it can be a frustrating process
To answer the last post - you obviously have an operator with a gateway that supports LDT, that's why.

Now we seem to agree it is a question of the gateway, and whether your operator allows you to use it.
Have you tried using the Ericsson gateway I posted in the second post here? I think many use that (maybe because they have Ericsson phones), and are happy with it. It certainly allows LDT to at least 30KB. However I don't know if your carrier will allow you to use it.
There is only one reliable way: Try it

The limit of 3 Kb IS with the T68, if there is no gateway in the network that will support LDT. You could of course argue that the limit on the T68 is due to the fact there is no gateway that does LDT !
With GPRS, the firewalling ( I suspect ) means that you can only tunnel out to the Voda GW, which as we know does not support LDT.
However, if you instigate a dial-up session using Voda, then you can go to whichever gateway you wish, including the one you listed.
If things are done this way, then you can neatly sidestep the SAR issue and the T68 can go up to this limit of 30 Kb ( although I haven't personally tried to push through that much )

I have no experience with them, however couldn't you lobby/pressure/ask politely if they could either open the GPRS limit, or enable LDT on their GW ?
It is my impression that LDT eksists om most gateways, it is just disabled by default. If the carrier is made aware of the need, they might enable it.
Just wishfull thinking, I know. I didn't do this myself (my TDC carrier does not have LDT enabled), I just switched GW (they don't have a firewall against that either).
But it might work.

However, bearing in mind I know CSD with your GW suggestion works, each time I want to do a "big" download, I can just swap profile.
The way that the T68 is set up means that it's easy to associate data accounts to wap profiles and to switch between them - so not major hassle.
However, it seems that only some people understand all the nuances of getting devices to work on all criteria - you are lucky enough to just be able to swap the GW, I have to set up completely new settings !
Anyway, I think we are ( the people who have read this post ) getting to the point where we can at least set the T68 up to sidestep this issue, to a greater or lesser extent
