I dont beleive those rumours
hardware is the same, otherwise you would not be able to switch firmware between them.

www.bengalboy.com you can find out for yourself about the w800 and the materials its made from etc.
also there appears that the ccd in the k750 is nothing more than a rumour.

The display is identical to the one used in K750i.
176x220 262k colors.

Hello there everyone!
I have very good (very very) sources that tell me in order to keep the cost of the W800 down low, the parts it is to be made with shall be made in a cheaper way. Some, not all.
CAN I JUST POINT OUT
(im sorry for the capitals, i want to make sure you guys believe me!!!)
That both phones have a 262k LCD. The Z600, T610 and T630 all had 65k LCD. But some were better quality than others. I am not saying the features are wrong, but the quality of the features. Do you see what im saying? The specs on the SE page, for example only, may say the K750i has a 262k screen. IT doesnt say that the K750i has a 262k CARBON screen, so technically the screen can be made of anything
chooses, from cheap to quality. Sources have it that the W800 screen, as BengalBoy rightly points out (after all, he has used the phone) is not made of carbon and the screen is of lesser quality.
I am not lying, come on, the great scotsboyuk believes these rumours!

Just as he is wrong about the resolution which is not 176x144 but 176x220, he is also wrong about the 65.000 color lcd display
I have no idea how he got into his head that the lcd in w800 are of lower quality than the K750 (perhaps he was to preoccupied with taking pictures of the kittens), but I know for certain that its absolutely not true. LCD's are identical, so are the cameramodules used.
Furthermore he doesnt say anywhere in his review that quality of w800 is lower than k750, quite the opposite. He says he feels the materials used on w800 feels like better quality than the K750 he tried at CTIA. I'd disagree on his views on this, but thats up to the individual to deside.
Heres the quote on his views about this:
"My personal experience with both phones at CTIA in New Orleans this past March was that I preferred the W800i's housing and feel over the K750i. The W800i just felt "better". Its hard rubber keys and housing just felt more expensive and quality to me than the K750i's more plastic feeling keys and housing."
About keeping costs down, the W800 are allready more expensive than the K750 even though production cost should be the same (since hardware are identical, just a different casing), the higher salesprice of W800 is based on the extras (bigger memorystick and better headset) and the Walkman brand. This doesnt fit with your expectations that they should try to keep cost of production lower than on K750 by using lower quality components. Using lower quality components also would not fit the marketstrategy focusing on the walkman branded W800, this would definately make it a lesser value phone and hurt sales if this was true.
