vanquish: I'm also looking forward to get a Canon dSLR. And it's quite interesting, all of Canon dSLRs use CMOS.
Nothing beats a really big CMOS sensor.

Who knows, 5 years later maybe we will see people complaining because they want a CMOS sensor. AFAIK, CMOS has a brilliant future.

Im not much of a techie with camera so i dont really know what it all means, although i do know the K750 wont get CCD but the S800 may.

Hey I didn't start a rumour I read it and so did some others by the looks of things! having now looked at some of the posted pictures I reckon most people are right about the CMOS being great, guess I'll go and get me a K750i tomorrow then

Yup just take the dive and go get you k750 you wont regret it, the photo quality is great, probably only second to the sharp 902, but still some stunning results.

The rumor originated at mobile-review.com, I believe, and I don't think Eldar Murtazin is an idiot. But there are some supposed comparison pictures around (maybe in these forums?), and the CCD sensor, if it's for real, doesn't appear to be worth waiting for. If you wait around for vaporware, you'd never buy anything!

These are the two major technologies that remplace the chemical photograph film. CCD and CMOS have different pros/cons compared to each other.

You can check

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/D30/D30A4.HTM

http://www.acdsystems.com/Eng[....]s/TechTips/tech-2001-10-25.htm

Long story short, CCD provides better quality with higher energy consumption. CMOS is cheaper and needs less energy, and gives a less satisfying image production. But with enough effort and engineering, CMOS can be as successful as CCD. Canon does it with his high-end (really high-end) cameras but this is the only case for now.

I've observed the capability of both camera in S700i and K750i. Do take a look at a few pictures I've taken by myself: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=97843

My conclusion is that S700i produces images with higher contrast, K750i produces images that are paler. But, K750i in the end become the winner 'cause the color reproduction is so much natural, with lower noise and brighter, sharper and more detailed images - if only we're speaking about the difference between in S700i/K750i.

I assume the contrast and paleness differs in both phones are caused by the different sensors they have. One is CCD, the other is CMOS.

But, the overall quality of both pictures depends on many aspect. So can we jump into a conclusion that the next CCD phone camera from SE will be worse than the CMOS one? I think, we surely cannot since it's not what the issue is all about.

I think that K750i's camera desing is more complex than the S700's. And don't forget, autofocus is obviously a huge improvement and the overall structure of the camera is more important than just the CCD vs. CMOS comparison.
