Oh man, it has Atrac! There are a few of us around here that have been using Sony portable audio products like their old hard drive players and NetMD that have been wondering why no SE phones had Atrac support. I would have liked the built in audio player of my P910 to support audio files I already had.
I makes me wonder how Sony was able to force their Memory Stick into SE phones, but not Atrac3?
While I agree the more formats the merrier, it was probably wise that SE supported MP3 primarily. Part of the complaint of Sony's line of digital music players was no MP3 support till recently. Who knows, maybe atrac support in a future FW release?

I wasn't actually asking for Atrac exclusively, just passively hoping it would be added.
I was also rather curious why it never made it into the phones considering how hard Sony pushed it in all of their products. All other arguments aside it is actually a good codec.

I find the atrac compression (even full sp mode atrac) to be lifeless and dead compared to mp3 and aac compression (even at same or better atrac bit rates). The compression algorythm is too clinical for my liking.
My other beef with atrac is the way files are decompressed to an atrac pcm stream while transferring to the player - this slows down copying to the device drastically.
Personally I think AAC compression is the best around, and it easily supports drm, so Sony should just drop atrac and get on the bandwagon (which SE have done from K700 onwards).
IMO.

NO, you can't...Japan uses a totally different mobile standard to the rest of the world...there are phones that are dual mode GSM/CDMA or whatever standard is used over there.
