Make sure you've done all you're windows updates too, especially XP service release 2 (or whatever it's called!) if you don't already have it. That helps one hell of a lot too. Panda antivirus is also supposed to be excellent, and it can get rid of/prevent spyware too.
I've also recently gotten rid of Norton Personal Firewall and am now using Zone Alarm, a freeware firewall which is also excellent

U can try the best apl. Ad-aware SE Personal Edition(www.lavasoftusa.com)or HijackThis(www.spywareinfo.com) but not for novices and of course Spybot(www.safer-networking.org)

Sounds like you've got a dose of 'Antivirus Gold'. This is a very nasty one and usually has to be removed manually, although Adaware does get rid of some of it automatically. The instructions for removing it are here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.c[....]rus_Gold_or_AVGold-t22397.html
It's quite long and looks pretty scary, but it's not that bad really.
What's worse, even when you've got rid of AV Gold you'll probably find that you still have problems, particularly when you try to change your display settings or desktop wallpaper. If you do, post back here and I'll get you the fix.
