> O2 charging for gprs

No probs Chris. This is the thing I don't get, she still has her IP and proxy set just how they were when it was free (IP 193.113.200.195 proxy port 8080). Strange how they're charging some and not others. Her sim was from an o2 shop but its the "online" sim with 300 free texts a month. Don't know if the fact that it's from an o2 shop and not from the online shop if that would make any difference. Can't see that it would to be honest as it's still an online 300 text sim.

When MTN in S.Africa ended their free gprs earlier this year there was much the same confusion as you're experiencing. Take it in stride, guys. We subsequently got charged an arm and a leg, but their rate is now the lowest available over here ;o)

It gets more confusing, I've read on another forum that other people received the text about o2 charging for o2 active, but some reckon its only for using o2 active pages and not other wapsites?!

I got a text a few days ago saying that O2 are going to lower the cost of browsing O2 active to 1p. I presume this meant after the free 1MB had been used. I havent checked to see if the Proxy setting 8080 was now being charged for.

Sadly this seems to be typical of o2 keeping customers very much in the dark. I've checked the online usage of 1 of my contracts and it hasn't been updated since 28 july! Typical! O2 need to get there act together and supply customers with coherent information.

You're definitely not alone in this problem. It seems to be for all sites that I tried visiting, oddly enough my work colleagues sim works fine for it. The settings are the same on both phones.
I started getting the texts from o2 every time I tried connecting today since about 8am. When I tried last night at about 1am it worked fine, though..
Email worked fine until Saturday morning.
Oddly enough, on Friday morning my credit was the same as ever - £11 - and then when I checked on saturday it was 46p after only 700k max of data transfer. Funny. I don't mind paying o2 for the gprs, but that was a bit of a shock and a bit excessive. Fair enough if they want their money for all the other gprs usage I've had while it's been free (maybe 2-3MB as I've had the sim a short time), but it all seems a bit strange.
I've been using an o2 genie sim for over 3 years now (I think) and spent a lot on that (it's especially fun when for some reason on weekends the free text allowance would disappear and resume from the monday). I only bought a new o2 sim because the genie one doesn't support gprs.

dude_se My wife has been getting those too, oddly though, I tried her sim in my 9500 her credit went from 56p to 8p but didn't drop anymore even though I was still browsing. When I disconnected it went to 9p!
