they're the same.
re uploading images from a phone.
this feature is available from devices with full html support (not xhtml.)

Well, i'm using a full html browser. I can access the upload picture page but have not yet been able to successfully uplodad one. The question is how does esato know i'm posting from a "phone"? I'm not using the phones default browser. A third party full html capable browser.

esato "knows" because of a browser's user-agent identity string, which basically identifies the phone's web client.
