Without the keyboard the phone would probably be the same size anyway.
Have you tried to count the amount of new hardware that is in this phone compared with the P910?
Just a few: wi-fi, 3G, FM radio, 3D Gfx Accelerator, (etc)
On top of that you still have to have a good battery, or else it will die in your hands after a couple of hours of use.
One thing for sure, playing games with the new 3D accelerator and keyboard will be sweet!

Hello everyone

Whilst I log onto this forum on nearly a daily basis, historically, I do not post any comments. However, in view of the posts in this thread, I am compelled to ask a very simple question - why the vitriolic damnation of a product?

Sony Ericsson manufactures phones, yourselves and I buy phones. If you don't like the product, you don't buy it!

Bemoaning the virtues (or lack of!) of this phone does not sway a global enterprise like Sony in any way. If the phone is not "fit for purpose" go look elsewhere. If you can compromise on certain features, do so. If you are happy with what is on offer, buy it.

Life is very simple, don't complicate it!

p.s. I hate the keyboard and the fact it is not wireless g compatible, but I am in the "compromise camp" and want it.......BADLY!!!!!!!!!!

Does this mean SE is going to put up the next next thing *after p990* much sooner than usual?

Yeah, that keyboard somehow strikes a wrong chord in the beginning.. whats the size of keyboard?

The press release mentions "2.8 inch QVGA touch screen"... and then it mentions "bright TFT screen"... I am not sure I understand the difference- if any/.

64 MB or no 64 MB card, I know I will take this.

Like many posters I've not been suprised by the negative comments about the P990.

What do people actaully expect?

A flying saucer that can organise your life, make dinner, get you noticed by the opposite sex and still handle phone calls, video/music playback?

Once the phone ships early next year expect people to come on here gloating how much they love their P990s.

There are quite a few screenshots of UIQ 3 at this link if it hasn't already been posted before. I'm not able to upload them as images from here sorry:

zusstin> TFT is the LCD technology used to make the screen. QVGA is the size in pixels of the screen: VGA is 640x480, QVGA is 320x240.

why are people complaining about not havina 3 megapixel camera?

why do we ALL have the SAME discussion every time about every new smartphone:

its a symbian smartphone, not a symbian camera phone. it has 3g!!! why would it need a larger megapixel camera?

im going to leave now.

Is the next Pxxx going to have more features, or less? Assuming SE see the market for a cut down, smaller, UIQ device then maybe the P990 numbering is logical. Perhaps the P950 will be the answer for those who don't like the size or an integrated keypad?

If not, it's something they should be considering! Then again, the next K750 candy bar product will possibly use a much faster ARM11 processor (or so ARM were hinting last week) and with some amazing Java apps available, a lot of the things I used my P910 for can be done on my W800. Get Opera mini and a decent email client, and an even faster, 3G, version would suit me fine.

Smartphones haven't had their day by any means, but the K750 comes close to mopping up a lot of customers who previously had no choice but to go for a smartphone.

The truth is that dumbphones get smarter every day and sooner or later the difference with smartphones will wanish in many areas.

Before K750 was released, it was confirmed in an interview made by mobile-review with an SE official (I think) that SE will proceed develop those dumbphones (like K750), which will become even smarter during next year.

Personally I don't think we will see any small UIQ 3.0 devices from SE during next year.

Good god you lot bitch don't you?

1) It was never going to be any smaller because whatever happened it was going to have a removable flip and a full QWERT KB on the machine, plus they want a large screen for business work (Thats right kids, it's a business phone, and SE care more about how many units IBM will buy than you)

2) It looks great, certainly better than all the other P series (I had a P900 and loved it, K750 right now)

3) Wi-Fi!!! I've been waiting for a phone I liked, IE not Treo or M$ with Wi-Fi for ages, now I can get one and surf from bed (fnar). It's not 802.11G? OH MY GOD GO KILL THE DESIGNERS NOW!! Who cares, no one will notice and if your transferring files that fat, get a USB cable.

4) Who the hell needs a 3Mp cam on their phone? The differences between 2 & 3 are negligable and this 2Mp will undoubtably be better than the K750s (Which rules TBH)

5) Memory sticks - they don't put a big pne in the box because . . . . . . . THEY WANT YOU TO BUY ANOTHER ONE YOU IDIOTS!!!! Same reason the PSP comes with a 64mb, Sony make more money from accesories like camera bags, batteries, extra playsation controllers and replacement remotes than they do for all their other stuff.

6) 80 Mb is enough for any internal files, if you need more, you have obsessive compulsive disorder, uninstall some shit fs.

Whining ninnies.
