This could be way off the mark - but I thought spot photometry was to improve the look of an image. I find it hard to reason why this is suddenly causing over-exposure in our images.

Ideally, I think I'd like a driver that has great quality (which we're all aiming at), but will ultimately take care of itself, without the continual adjustment to brightness/exposure.

One big, bad, bug that is...(the exposure bug)
That besides, the time taken to save a picture to the MSPD also seems to have slowed down in all the updates today, or is it just me?

@ Jasond,
Spot photometry doesn't make a picture look better.
The function of "metering" is to evaluate the required exposure depending on the brightness at different point. There are several metering options like average, centre-average, multi-segment and spot.
Spot metering determines the overall brightness of an image by evaluating a particular point (in this case, the exact centre of the viewfinder).
So, if the "spot", i.e. the center of the viewfinder points to a darker part of the scene, it will cause a longer exposure, and if the centre points to a bright part of the scene, it will cause under exposure.

Usually, in digicams, the focus-lock also locks the exposure, once we select an exposure, it won't change untill we release the shutter. But this's not the case with the K750, and only the focus remains locked in the K750, while exposure changes based on the scene.

Hope that made it clear.

ok heres one with spot siwtched off and exposure setting working:

http://rapidshare.de/files/24359592/camdriver0.dat.html

The time taken to save is much longer since compression is much less.....if you use the Normal setting instead of fineyour time taken will be less.....let me figure something out with the Normal setting...will try and reduce compression but keep the saving time shorter/

Yeah that's great, thanks.

I too have noticed that exposure will not sit when the shutter is half pressed.

It's a shame there's not some way to either:

- set the driver to fix exposure as well as focus when the shutter button is partially pressed, or

- set spot photometry to take into account the entire image and not just the central spot.

Yippee, this version is grr8!! And not the slightest hint of noise!!! (It's already dusk now, so no way to do a bright daylight test)

@Jasond,
if u make the camera scan the entire area, it'll be called average metering, which was what the R1J used to have. R1N onwards, it was centre-weighted average, which was something intermediate between average metering and spot metering.

BTW most digicams use the multi-segment metering, with the option to switch over to Spot/Centre modes.

Will try my best mate.......might take some time though. I have to decode the exposure and ISO and white balance settings that seems to be the most complicated part of the driver but with lots of trial and error I'm sure its possible although it will take some time
