@ZEBS:

i love to show off when riding in trains... with the flip removed, and the phone paired with the HBH-DS970 stereo bluetooth headset, i would listen to my MP3 collection and at the same time pretending to read my emails... while praying to Jesus that my phone wont crash or restart. LOL!

Well a few days ago I took the plunge and decided to remove the flip - you guys are right when you say the P990i looks better and is less bulky, although last night I put the flip back on for these reasons:

1. The phone functionality is just a chore to use without the clip one handed. I'm sure over a longer period you get used to it, but IMO flip closed mode for phone operation is much more usable
2. Limited access to speakerphone and other "More" shortcuts without the flip
3. When used in the car in the car cradle without the flip the P990i is pretty much unsable - the numeric buttons are too small, there is no access to the keylock slide switch and very limited access to the back button which is pretty much essential with the flip off

I think for the forseeable future flip-on is the way forward for me.

Having had an M600i in the past, for me the ideal device would be the P990i's features but closer to the M600i form factor with the rocker QWERY/numeric keys, and the addition of the P990i's soft keys for ultimate one handed use.

Quick question guys but i hope it fits in this topic...
When typing text in FC i was used to my K700 wherein when i want to write the word "gift" i would key number 4 for the letter "G" then i would press the right arrow so i can instantly type the letter "I" from pressing again number 4 key, is ther a way to do that in P990?

I put my flip on again since you lose a few things without it. Using the camera for example. You have to zoom with the stylus without the flip. When sending a picture from the camera directly the picture is not compressed in memory which makes your MMS rather large. You have to tap the screen to make adjustments in the camera mode. The QWERTY keyboard is useless in FO. Why?

With flip closed the screen is smaller and due to that it uses less battery. Installing mini Opera you can surf the web with flip closed if you want to.

There are also some bad things with flip closed. You can't access the alarm. There's no way of making a change of row in a SMS with the numeric keypad.

One final annoying thing with the phone is that it has to update the music files everytime you start the mediaplayer. If the mediaplayer is running in the background there's no problem, but due to lack of memory it keeps closing down and then you have to update it again. 2GB memorystick takes about 30-40 sek to update every time.

Enjoy.

@mange69
why get the big screen phone then?! and why get a touch screen if u do not like to use it? I think you got the wrong phone in this case.

how many times did u use the keyboard? it needs some time for u 2 get used to it. once u get used, it's a pleasure.

as far as media player, did u check the settings? remove the auto update, and ur problem goes away.

@mange69,
I had the same problem re Music files updating so to expand on what Scroitoru has said. It is not where i expected it to be but thanks to someone hear found it. I am assuming it is in the same place on the P990 as the M600. Go to Media Player then Music actually open this so you get Artists, Albums etc etc, then choose more, then preferences then choose files and File Update and change to manual. After which the annoying search will bother you no more hope that helped.

No,in P990 it is very easy. In music player itself just click setings-preferences-files-manual update. Three seconds job.
Same thing but sounds totally different, isn't it:))
