the thing is - and read this carefully, it's not a joke, it's not belittling the situartion... - what appears as "wanting trouble" is a completely common behaviour for a "group" of people, be it a commune, a racial minority, a "gang", a nation...: if for a long time your "group" suffers problems beyond your control, based on nothing than the fact that you are different (black, muslim, female, iranian...) from the "power", different from the majority... generalisingly, there are 2 main mechanisms to cope:
a) you try to fit in/adapt (you are a good house wife, you "grow up", stop being a gangbanger..., you "westernize"... You sell out...). Much of our so-called psychology is about that adaption, make you function in the larger group even if the majority may be wrong... "you adapt, you'll be happier, you'll be able to improve the overall situation of the group ("change the system from within")...
b) you refuse to adapt (your grievances are too big; your opponents too relentless to join them , too against-what you-believe-in; you feel a compromise would harm you and your group more than it would help the vague "greater good"...) - so then you "act up", "let it all hang out"... Show "them" what if "their" stereotypes of "your kind" were true: you become a gangster rapper instead of A Bill cosby, you become a "punk" because you've been called one once too often, .... You act like the "crazed towelhead" cause that's what your people have been called and treated as forever... This is simplified but not BS, it's socio-psychology 101... it's adaptation 1.02... And it can work just as "changing the system from within" MOSt oftEn fAILs!!! Problem is - short-term, it can be devastating - while adapting can be devastatin in the long run (if more people would "act up" occasionally there wouldn't be bully bosses and wars!... So there...
@fatreg, the uniform issue is dicey; I understand what you mean, but if they'd been "stripped" of rank by an alien force, it could've been interpreted as a serious offence!
Just my thoughts for a week's end

Everyone saw this comming, we've been supporting troops in iraq, makes sense that bush stands by blair and condems irans behaviour.
Anyone watched the BBC video of bush's speech? he looks..er..well drunk or something hehe.
I'm discusted at Iran and would fully support any millitary action taken..but no one cares what I think hehe.
Sod an apology, I don't think Britain should say sorry for ANYTHING...they're taking the piss.
"we've illegally kidnaped 15 of your people...made a mockery of them on our public TV and now we also want an apology so we can feel big and smug"
Also...why do you think 2 people out of the 15 captured apologised??
I bet the were threatened with torture or such like, i highly doubt they said.."You know what, even though they kidnapped us...they're right, let me go and apologise on TV".
I think the army should use all the force nessecary in getting them troops back and show no weakness from the UK.
They're terrorists, lets be honest "we'll do this if you do that"...giving out demands like they're something...please, grow up children..sort ya damn country out.
Sorry i'm a little angor at them....it wouldn't be tollerated if the UK went and done it, so it shouldn't be tolerated from us.
Someone should write them a very nasty, yet stern letter.

WHO GIVES A FLYING F*CK WHAT BUSH HAS TO SAY? Why don't you throw in a charles manson quote? Or, HEY, SEE WHAT THAT LINSEY WHATSHERNAME HAS TO SAY ABOUT PRISONER-TREATMENT ... "bush said... But listen before you comment" - boohoooo. It's Bush! He btw had mentally disabled people executed as Governator of Texas...WHO GIVES A FLYING F*CK WHAT HE HAS TO SAY ABOUT ANYTHING - HE IS A RECOVERING DRUG ADDICT WHO AT 50+ YRS STILL HASN'T FOUND A SINGLE POSITIVE APPROACH TO ANYONEF*CKINGTHING IN THIS WORLD...
George Bush is not even an elected representative... picked, yeah... elected? NO...
What's next, Xugaa, another UN-QUOTE? Maybe not by the current Sec.General, and not a kofi-quote... Why don't you quote, say, Kurt Waldheim next time - look HIM up though, because prior to being General Secci to the UN he was a high ranking SS-officer who evaded Nuremberg - I'm sure there's at least 1 Waldheim-quote you can use for this thread! George Bush does not care about 15 Brits, about 3000 New Yorkers, a million Iraqis, about xugaa or axxr or maggflodd - leave him out of this until he's one day drunk enough to admit he's working for totalitarian thugs (but not too drunk to make that testimony fly out of court!). "Kurt Waldheim" - look him up!!!

Forced to give in and "admit" that without a doubt; all for just propaganda to the Iranian people.
And look it seems its worked...
"On Sunday, Iranian students threw stones and firecrackers at the British embassy in the capital Tehran in protest against what they said was the "illegal entry" into their waters by the UK personnel."
