Its possible to use short press of that key for bookManager but will also open the activity menu. A patch to enable long press for activity menu would solve that but i haven't seen it.
I dont know of any elfs to open pdfs only java applications.

and one more thing... where should i place the images used by StandbyMode? is these the icons that pertains to specific shortcuts.. or am i asking for another elf?

To start any elf when phone boots put them in daemons in card. Images for StandbyMode go in ini/Standby Mode or whatever you specify in the bcfg.

how come when i tried Accessing, ElfManager 0.45 and thru Daemons, in sez there "Insert Card"...
but then theres no Daemons (card) to pick... hhhmmm
