There are over 15.000 apps there, do you expect all or even most of them to be great? lol
I personally use a lot the medical apps, isilo for palm docs, airshare for office docs and a bunch of 3d games that are the best iīve seen on a phone (real soccer, brothers in arms, monkey ball, time crisis and etc).
Thereīs a very silly app which I really like though, itīs one that turns your iphone into a lightsaber. The cowbell one itīs really funny, the one that turns your phone into an ocarina is fun too.
Most of the apps will always be silly free/cheap apps, but there are great apps there too, you just have to look around a bit and they are easy to find.

That's why I said the appstore concept is weird, since the functions of some of those apps are already a default for the "primitive" phones that the iPhone is (supposedly) slaughtering right now. I know what you mean, I saw an app that can make it look like a half-drank beer pitcher and nothing else. Pretty weird. But then, the open source nature of the iPhone deserves to be congratulated.

iPint? I have that App even though I don't drink. It's great for showing off what the iPhone can do!
The iPhone is definately not open-source. Apple have made creating, selling and buying Apps easier that's all. I had never bought a Smartphone App before and have been pretty disappointed with the Java Apps I've used on my SE phones (except for Opera Mini) but the App Store has changed that. It's easy for everyone - herein lies Apple's stroke of genius.
Getting ordinary consumers to download Apps to a smartphone to the tune of 300 million in 6 months - that's revolutionary!

Err, I meant that the iPhone is actually very moddable if you look at the versatility of the platform, but you'll have to pay for it a.k.a the appstore concept. Yep I think it was called iPint

Its funny to see that the same people that criticize others for saying that choosing the iPhone is a mistake, say the same thing the other way round.
Like many others here, i dont like most things of the iPhone. I discuss this with a friend since iPhoneīs existence (yes its stupid, but we do it anyways). Some say that simplicity is iphone`s point, but at the same time you have billions of stupid "apps" to add the functions the phone lacks ( bluetooth, mms ,etc). I even saw an app to make your iphone a mirror ( the only thing that it did was to put the display in black) and the developer claimed to had been developing an special algorithm to make it darker. So you end up filling it with aplications to make it work like it should from the beggining.
Well, its obviously a matter of taste, i got to say it have some positive things, but i still dont like it. If you do, then great.
Maybe the Iphone will cause world war III , who knows ? XD
What sets is apart is that normally if you dont like a particular phone you wouldnt spend so much time in that phones thread on a forum telling others so much how you DON'T like it.
Yet with iphone it seems everyone who doesn't like it feels the need to tell everyone how much they don't like it. Why do you think that is?
They are either closet iphone fans or are just envious that no one is giving their formely uber cool S60 device the same attention. It's kind of like an old girlfriend crying out for attention when a new better looking girlfriend comes along.

Actually, i didnt spend SO much time reading, it was like 5 minutes because half of the post in this thread were yours

. Anyways, who would be envious of a phone ? That would be very sad. It looks like Appleīs Iphone is your girlfriend because you defending it every time

.
PD: i dont like S60 either, i like SE

I got to play with an iPhone on saturday as my friend has one. Loved the interface but didnt like the keyboard for texting much.
One thing I have observed with iPhone users (only taken from the 3 people I know who use one)is that they say they love it and wouldnt get rid of it but then say that they dont like the phone or texting part, which to me is the most important part of a phone.

Each to his own I guess. I think in fairness most iphone owners will have some feature of the phone for which they are not entirley impressed. For me it's the camera but as far as text input goes it's brilliant for me. I can text faster with this than with a phone that has solid keys. Im guessing thats becasue I am typing with both hands, like a BB.
I admit when I first used it I found text input a bit of a pain for maybe the first week but once you get used to it there is nothing to beat it.
