i mean, i think the LG Arena is just another in a long line of LG crap that will be irrelevant and redundant in less than 12 months, but i couldnt care less about it or anyone that owns one, let alone hate it with as much passion as these iphone haters do
Exactly.
Chances of there being a thread next year entitled "Why is the LG Arena More Relevant Than Others " = 0%.
Chances of me even remembering what the LG Arena was or caring less about it = even less.
Chances of the iPhone and/or its successor still causing a stir = pretty damn high.

The iphone did everything it sayed in the box when I bought it plus a bunch a new things. I was happy when I bought my first iPhone and I'm even happier now with the 3G. I'll probably be even happier with os3 or even os4 lol. See my point? Everybody has different needs and priorities. I tryed to explain that to you before. We bought iPhones beacuse of all the benefits it would bring to our files and we were totally aware of its capabilities. We don't expect os updates to add features, apple does it for free to maintain momentum in the platform, but we are already happy with our phones. You can spit out all you want about the features you value or like but in the end they are just features YOU like and guess what? I'm not you.

Oh, come on!
Its handy but thats it. Horses for Courses. What frightens people is that they may turn into "one of them", when they get one.
iPhone is great but no matter which way you look at it, waiting for years, or god knows how many months, for an upgrade which will give you the ability to send a simple MMS? Or short video? Unless you have a second phone to send a picture with, to go with your second video camera. Or unless everyone you wanna send a picture to, all have an email address, is a bit much to ask.
Lord knows, does every iPhone user go out their way to get the latest update to their OS? Probably not.
My sister's boyfriend has got one and I sent him pictures, after her recent visit, (not seen her for two years or more), not knowing he had an iPhone - never received them.
If all my friends had an iPhone then I'd probably never be able to send them instantaneous pictures of anything that happens on a weekend (which is probably a wise move anyway.

)
iPhone is fantastic for its flexibility but people need more.
Calls, Texts, Still Cam shots, Browsing, Video, MMS, eMail, are probably what people expect from a phone they have forked out a lot of money for. The iPhone falls down in certain areas however, like Bhavv says any other phone can do all of these.
Apple have done great promoting the iPhone, and its a fantastic device, but its just not for all.
Just my tuppence'th in this pissing contest.

@goldenface, but you have been able to send mms, video and the other things you mention from very early on although yes, you do need to jailbreak. but its been a simple process to do that for a very long time, and that is no less than people do elsewhere, for example on UIQ 3 to gain access to the protected areas, so thats nothing new either
also, not receiving an mms is not the fault of the iphone, its the networks fault. if a device is not capable of receiving mms the network is supposed to send yo a link to a web page to view the mms.

i am sure they all know this, its been said countless times that we have have always been able to overcome these so called 'limitations' from the very launch of iphone 3g, it just suits their argument to pretend not to see it

My sister is in her 50's (hope she isn't reading this). How about ringing her up and telling her to send me pictures of her boozer so I can work on building a website for it?
Where is the ease of communication? After all, thats what being mobile is all about isn't it? Making things easier?
Explain to her what 'jailbreaking' is. She'll tell you to do one.

If she's got an iPhone then for her to take those pictures and email them to you is the work of moments, and whether she's in her fifties or not, just as easy if not easier than sending a picture message on many other phones. Try and find a smartphone that's easier or more intuitive to use than the iPhone - it doesn't exist.
If she doesn't understand or use email, then clearly a phone like the iPhone was never for her in the first place - that's not the fault of the iPhone or anything to do with its MMS abilities.
As Masseur says, if somebody didn't get the pictures you sent then the network's at fault. They should have just got a text with a link which would open them up in Safari. Are you sure your phone actually sent them? That's rather less likely than an iPhone being unable to receive a simple text message.

you don't need to send an MMS to send a picture! ... and taking and sending a still is a doddle on the iphone
jailbreaking is more or less a one click operation and just one extra thing you have to do to get extra stuff on your iphone
if you buy a windows pc and want to create spreadhseets it usually doesnt do it out of the box (unless you get some freebie included of course). you have to go out and buy the software and learn how to install it and configure it
its really not that different, or hard

he obviously just made it up, we all know that any phone that cant receive MMS will simply recieve a text message with a link to the MMs online
childish attempt at point scoring
