Hey there. Just joined the forum for this specific topic. I've just recieved a w705, it's 2 weeks old, looks absolutely amazing, but the slide issues are killin' me. I've been faithful to Sony for quite some time, going from a k300i, then w200, k800, G900 and P990i (I'm still the proud owner of the last one). None of my phones had any problems. You might notice, for sure, that all of them are candybars (the P990 has the "mutant" keyboard, though). What happens with my 1st slider?! It has a VERY loose slide.

I kept asking here and there for an official service (I'm from Romania), but can the loose slide actually be fixed!? I'm willing to pay, no probs, but I want to stop searching if it ain't possible. Any ideas?

Is your slide wobbly when closed and tightens up a little when opened ?
My dad has gone through 4 of them so far via O2 uk but all have come with the same build quality on the slider. As mentioned. When closed the gap between the 2 sections is quite big and theres some very noticeable wobble. When opening the slide is quite strong on resistance and tightens up when opened with no wobble at all and the gap seems to close slightky as well.
My dad wont try another type as he likes the W705. He's had it to replace his K800 which he had on its day of release (his last upgrade was a C902 but he didnt like it).
I'm thinking of buying a red/black one as a spare to my C905. I think the W705's keypad is good to use as well.

It's wobbly both when open or not, that's why I'm worried. It never tightens. I've tried inserting a small piece of paper between the upper and lower parts of the phone, and it seemed to work. Only it kept falling out some time after 4-5 slides, and it got annoying. I still keep my opinion, it's a great phone to use, and I like it better by the day

My question remains valid, however: is there ANY (and I do mean it literally) way to fix a phone slide?

I had a C901 that I loved, but it kept turning off and refusing to turn back on. I sent it in to Sony for service and they said it wasn't fixable. The C901 was never available commercially in North America (I bought it online) so they couldn't replace it. They offered to send me a W995 instead, which I accepted, but now I'm kind of regretting it- the photos don't look too great on it from what I've seen. I haven't received it yet, it's supposed to get here in a few days.

@ehamiter

You can take a look at some of the W995 samples here http://www.esato.com/phonepho[....]p?make=SonyEricsson&model=W995 and http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=188425

It WILL be bad when you start trying it out but once you get the hang of it, it could really fly as demonstrated by some of the samples shown in the links. Don't believe review sites because they never consider tinkering with the settings to get the best results, they usually base everything on full auto to be fair for shoot outs, plus it's probably from a pre-retail version. You will miss the C901 Xenon for sure for clubbing and parties, but there are some aspects about W995 which is better like saturation and video recording. Throw in the other extras like GPS, wifi, 3.5mm jack, superb Walkman sound, excellent video playback on a 2.6" screen supported by the kickstand and you'll forget your C901 in no time

@mode, have you altered the camdriver for the W995? I have heard good things about one made by 'dirty rodriguez,' but I'm not too eager to mess with the new phone's file system yet. My old one was in the shop for weeks- longer than I've actually owned it, and I don't want to screw anything up. Just curious if it's worth it to mod it or not.

@mriley, yep- the online seller basically said it wasn't their issue, but SE provides a 1 year warranty on phones, so take it up with them. I created the RMA on January 14th and I'm just now getting it resolved... at least they are offering me something to replace it with, although I really like the C901. I researched phones forever before deciding on that one and basically now I'm getting something else I'm not exactly crazy about. Not sure how I feel about that.

@thesun, thanks. Hopefully the W995 can take decent shots. Reviews of the camera so far are not thrilling me, but I'll give it a fair chance. I may end up selling it and trying to get a C905 though (which is available in North America, although the C901 is not for some odd reason), we'll see.
