In case of Gulf Air & Emirates in the Middle East, my use of the P910 and current P990 in flip open mode when cruising was objected to by the crew in Economy class, even though I was working with spreadsheets. My explanation of the Flight Mode was not accepted. No problems with First Class though.
However, when using both devices flip-less, I've had no problems with the crew on the same airlines.
