Nokia is loosing markests fast, here TIM (the only GSM operator in Peru) doesn't have nokia models anymore. Maybe the big problem is that SE needs a marketing department like nokia's, but nokia needs SE's design department.

2 McKinley: nokia has lost a lot from the market share because of the "new" brands in the GSM industry like LG, samsung etc. and actually nokia didn't sold less devices, they sold more then they used to, but these "new" sold also some .. e.g. SE "lost" also on market share and it has got around 5 % so in these terms SE and Nokia are equal

nonetheless, nokia still maintains 30% of the world marketshare

anyways, 6230 has more then mmc support, k700i is generation behind in terms of technology compared to the 6230, eventhough it's a newer cell phone.

just to name a few disadvantages of k700i compared to 6230.

k700i has got no expandable memory, no edge, very poor implementation of addressbook (only 510 numbers, search with only 1 letter), very poor implementation of PIMs (calendar doesn't support repeating events, only 6 notes can be synchronised, poor "wallet" implementation), "my friends" can be used only over WAP profile (usually 10times more expensive then GPRS over internet APN). even camera is better on the 6230 and noone is saying that the phone meets the camera

well, k700i has got only better display and eye candy GUI ..
k700i way to overestimated .. as S700 is ..

you mentioned that SE has better experience in 3G, it's not truth .. look at the fiasco of the Z1010. V800 is the only comparable 3G headset ..

but nokia has got also this very very old 6650 (actually very first 3G headset), 7600 (except ford weird design is this phone comparable with k700i, and even that has more to offer) and now 6630, plus there are more to come by the end of the year

however, Sharp, LG, Nec have technological edge in 3G ..

aguil2,
Remeber what I wrote in my last post, 6230 for business users and K700i for youth and therefor 6230 should been better in those things.
My Friend is absolutely the biggest joke but who cares when you can download X-Messenger which support ICQ, MSN and AIM.

I really don't want to make this a K700 vs 6230 thread but I have to argue those things K700i does better.
MP3 to K700 is more powerful and also support stereo.
Man, I can't understand why Nokia doesn't allow you to play the radio through the loud speaker?? They are pioneer when it comes to built-in radio in mobile phones but they are behind now.
It's pretty tie when it comes to camera function. K700i produce sharper and more saturated colours but 6230 produce less noise and softer images which means less detailed image.
6230 is way behind in, yes you know what.
I will not discuss more pros and cons since there are so many threads about that already.

SE Z1010 was way ahead than any other competetives when it first was presented but Sony Ericsson had some serious problems and once they solved them and managed to get it out on the market, they were just on par with todays handsets. Now Z1010 belongs the past and mistakes are made to be corrected and SE has corrected them with their V800 but Nokia still doesn't support video conference.

Why did I bring up the market in South Korea and Japan because our phones will more or less look like them in terms of technique and here Nokia will have to put a lot of effort to be able to match other companies.

Nokia remain strong with 30% of market but Sony Ericsson could had more than just 6.9% of the market if it wasn't because of their production problems they always have with their new handsets. The problem began with T610 and still remain today.

McKinley: no offence, you aparently didn't have the 6230 in your hands. just to correct some of your statements.

audio output for k700i & 6230 is on par with the regular headphones. nokia 6230 does support stereo and you can listen to the radio over the speaker too

plus function like my friens or instant messaging (IM) in case of nokia is better, then any given java application. simply because it can be run into background and poll msgs every now and then. moreover, you can save the contacts(icq numbers etc) into your _internal_ addressbook, which you cannot do with a java application, and if you didn't know IM/MF _is_ compatible with ICQ, AOL, MSN, yahoo too

btw nokia has got problems with spare parts, too everybody in the industry does let's face it LG and samsung pretty much outsold SE from praticaly zero in the GSM market in recent 3 years.

@scotsboyuk, I don't mean a merge with nokia but it would be a great idea if SE get some of nokia impulse and start to sell phones in a more agressive way. T226 is a great success in peruvian market but it's selling itself. You don't see a real sales campaign or any advertising on any SE phone, but nokia is more agressive that way so they obviously sell more phones, by the way not as cool as SE phones.
