I've just tried the update service and it still has barred me from using it

The reply is rather ambiguous!
"We are currently in the process of getting the service for the device's and will have an update on this within the next 14 days.
I will email you back once we receive the communication and update on this issue."
It sounds rather like O2 are planning to provide access to the SE Online Update, and will get some information about when this is happening in 14 days.
If we are really lucky the 'information' will say that the SE Online Update is now available for O2 users, so it will be switched on on around 14 days.
If we are really unlucky it will say that they don't plan on allowing access to the service.
I'm guessing it will be somewhere in between - e.g. it will be available on (for the sake of argument) December 1st.
